Learn how to use the hashbytes function in SQL.

The HASHBYTES function returns the MD2, MD4, MD5, SHA, SHA1, or SHA2 hash of a string. The next example returns a SHA1 hash value of it the string that was input.

DECLARE @Hash nvarchar(4000);
SET @Hash = CONVERT(nvarchar(4000),'abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890');
SELECT HASHBYTES('SHA1', @Hash);

The SHA1 hash value is:

0x13E4284CDEBC43B9CF5D544D6064FE537195E4FC
